Linen, much like cotton, does have a tendency to shrink. For that reason, avoid washing linen clothes in hot water and opt for either warm or cold water. If your linen is a dark color, stick with cold to avoid fading.

Linen is best washed with a mild detergent

Avoid the use of fabric softener, and never use bleach on linen clothing, even if it's white.

Always wash linen garments on your machine’s gentle cycle.

Do not crowd the washing machine with too many items at once. This can cause twisting or pulling the linen fabric out of shape.

If you hand wash, only use a gentle swishing motion – never wring, twist or scrub the fabric. Hand washing is recommended for clothes that is not heavily soiled, or for linen fabric with a loose weave, which might be damaged during a wash in a washing machine.

Dry clothes flat and out of the sun if possible.

If there is a need for ironing, iron your linen clothes while slightly damp.
